Thank You, Mrs. Rona

Taking inspiration from Carrie Mae Weems' "The Kitchen Table Series," I decided to create something similar, yet unique to me. My series is titled "Thank You, Mrs. Rona," which started about the effects COVID-19 has had on everyone, then ended up being about my story with COVID-19. I opted for only wanting to photograph myself to bring about even more interesting compositions and to tell only my story, as opposed to Weems photographing multiple people in some of her photos. Each photo represents a unique experience, even completely strange and old at times, that living during and with COVID-19 would one only understand.

This project was a tough one to complete as I ended up testing positive for what my whole project was originally about. Once I received my results, instead of showing how others may have been affected by the virus, I decided to show exactly how my life has been every day with COVID-19. This series invites viewers to see the symptoms I faced (and still face to this day) on full display and how they affected the life of a young, Black college student that only wanted to finish his semester strong. Thank you, Mrs. Rona, for allowing me to do the exact opposite.
